Okorocha: 6 reasons why Governor created Happiness ministry

Governor Rochas Okorocha and Imo State Commissioner for Happiness and Couples' Fulfillment, Ogechi Ololo.

Okorocha's aide explains why Imo Gov created a happiness and purpose fulfilment ministry.

Imo State Commissioner for Information, Prof Nnamdi Obiareri, spoke to ChannelsTV about why State Governor Rochas Okorocha created a Happiness and Purpose Fulfilment ministry in Imo State.

We run through what he said, below:

1. It's the responsibility of Governors to create as many ministries as possible

According to Obiareri; "I want to think that the responsibility of the Governor to create ministries are very clearly captured in section 192 of our constitution, particularly section 192 subsection 2.

"It is the prerogative of the Governor of the State, out of overriding public interest to create as many ministries as are possible to serve public interest".

2. It's all in the constitution

In the spokesperson's words; "I say this with every sense of responsibility in the understanding that Section 14, subsection 2 of the 1999 constitution makes the welfare and security of the people, the cardinal objective of government.

"So, what the Governor of Imo State has done in creating the ministry of happiness and purpose fulfilment is to be able to assist Imo people to realise happiness which is the primary essence of government….and their purpose in life.

"I say this because, arising from experience, some people are happy for different reasons. Some are also unhappy irrespective of the wealth and economic stability around them".

3. Most people are ignorantly unhappy

"Most people are also unhappy because of ignorance. So the government of the day acting under requisite constitutional province, created that ministry of happiness and purpose fulfilment".

4. This is all about promoting happiness in Imo

"The government put the ministry up in order to articulate and pursue plans to promote happiness of Imo people. You can realise that what the Governor has done is to give a clear umbrella portfolio to all the programs the government has put on ground in order to be able to achieve happiness in Imo State".

Got it?

5. The Governor's sister is supervising the ministry, but that doesn't make her the commissioner

The information commissioner says: "the fact that the deputy chief of staff, Hon Mrs. Ogechi Ololo has been put in charge of that ministry in a supervisory capacity does not and cannot amount to being made a commissioner of the ministry".

6. Happiness of Imolites is priority for Okorocha

"Happiness of Imo people is a priority for this government. If you remember, the mantra of the government is “Imo must be better”.

"Imo must be better' recognizes the fact that Imo people must be happy. Imo people must be able to be made to fulfil their purpose in life. The young school leavers who are out there on the streets must be made to be mentored.

"The young apprentices that we have all over the place. The millennials, women must be made to realise their purpose in life", the commissioner said.

Y'all happy now?
